Liverpool’s Chibuku Shake Shake bring one of the biggest line ups of the series to WHP2010, as expected from the legendary club known for its sterling history of massive guests in the past. Famously named after a bizarre brand of beer from Zambia, the night has grown from its humble beginnings at the Lemon Lounge in Liverpool to a globally recognised name in dance music, hosting events at some of the best clubs in the world such as London’s Fabric and Ibiza’s Space. Always pushing the best new underground artists alongside hugely established names, their line up for WHP2010 sees some of the biggest acts in electro, house and techno sharing the stage. French hero of the scene Vitalic will be performing his amazing V-mirror show live, a truly visceral mix of intense lighting, visuals and his epic productions taken from his acclaimed Vitalic and Flashmob albums as well as brand new material.

Two other stars of the French scene, the charismatic Ed Banger boss and former Daft Punk manager Busy P and Cassius’ Boombass will be going back to back for what is sure to be a highly entertaining set. They are joined by countrymen Brodinski, the boy wonder of the techno and electro scenes, and Ed Banger’s Mehdi, appearing as part of his new Carte Blanche project with Riton, a throwback to the halcyon days of Chicago House. Bugged Out! resident Matt Walsh, up and coming star of Tiga’s Turbo label, is joined by Manchester’s infamous Audiofarm crew, and the Chibuku residents Dom Chung and James Rand round off the line up, holding their own against the heavyweights.

  • Ever since the Poney EP dropped on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo label just after the turn of the millennium, causing a huge storm with its mix of techno aesthetics and huge, all conquering electro synth lines, France’s Vitalic has been seen as something of a demi god among the electronic music community, many considering his ability as a producer second to none. Since that first groundbreaking release Pascal Arbez-Nicolas has gone on to release two critically acclaimed, full-length albums, the self-titled Vitalic and last year’s unanimously well received Flashmob, in addition to maintaining a reputation as one of Europe’s finest DJs. He has remixed some of the biggest international names in electronic music such as Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Giorgio Moroder and Björk amongst others with often astonishing results. At this year’s Warehouse Project he presents V Mirror Live, an audio-visual extravaganza based on his much-revered live set, with a dazzling and groundbreaking light show accompanying his extraordinary sounds.

  • There are a few figures in dance music with a pedigree as fine as that of Pedro Winter – better known as to his fans and contemporaries as Busy P, the name a nod to his tireless work ethic. He was the manager of Daft Punk when the secretive Parisian duo were at the height of their powers, instrumental in their rise to almost god-like status, and he also founded the ubiquitous and world famous Ed Banger label, one which has become synonymous with French electro since its inception and which has helped launch the careers of Mr. Oizo, SebastiAn, Mehdi, Justice, Uffie, DJ Feadz and many more huge acts. It’s not just as a svengali that Busy P shines – his own remixes and performances more than hold their own next to the illustrious company he keeps, and his DJ sets are lessons in variety, a mix of upfront releases from the worlds of electro and tehcno as well as the old classic house and rave records that influenced the Ed Banger sound.
     
• Boom Bass

  • One half of the legendary French duo Cassius, Boom Bass and Zdar began working together as far back as 1988, producing beats for the huge French rap star MC Solaar. Their first project together, La Funk Mob, released records on seminal UK label Mo’ Wax, run by UNKLE’s James Lavelle. Their first track together under the name Cassius came in 1996, the disco-tinged Foxxy. The smash hit Cassius 1999 followed, one of the seminal tracks of the French house sound, an addictive mix of heavily filtered samples, disco grooves and a throbbing bass line. Debut album 1999 was released to huge acclaim on Virgin, instantly establishing them at the forefront of the house scene. Since then they have released several more albums such as 15 Again, Au Reve, including smash hit single The Sound of Violence and Thrilla, a collaboration with Ghostface Killah of the Wu Tang Clan. Boom Bass and Zdar have recently been Djing across the globe as part of the phenomenally popular Club75, a collective of Gallic superstar DJs including Busy P, Mehdi and Justice, their chaotic sets a riotous mix of house, techno, hip hop, electro and whatever else the moment calls for.
     
• Carte Blanche: DJ Mehdi and Riton

  • Ed Banger stalwart and veteran of the French house and hip hop scenes for over twenty years, born to Tunisian parents Mehdi has been friends with Ed Banger boss Pedro Winter for over thirteen years, ever since the pair first got together in the latter’s bedroom studio with the aim of creating new sounds in dance music. He has collaborated with the likes of Daft Punk, Cassius and  Chromeo to name but a few, and has remixed New Young Pony Club, Busta Rhymes, Boys Noize and Etienne de Crécy amongst many others, and is known for his thrilling DJ sets which take in hip hop, electro funk and classic house as well as modern electro and techno.

    Riton, otherwise known as Henry Smithson, is an alumnus of Manchester’s Fat City Records collective but now known for his electro and techno tinged house productions. The Newcastle native has been responsible for some of the electro house scene’s biggest cuts of late, culminating in his massive collaboration last year with Primary 1, Who’s There and his work with Seiji on their huge Computer Juice. His Eine Kleine Nacht Musik side project showed off his love of old disco and krautrock with stylish string-led single La Serenissima, and his Essential Mix for Radio 1 was an eclectic recent classic of the series, featuring atists as diverse as Modeselektor, Bart B More, Talking Heads and even Fleetwood Mac.  The pair will be performng as Carte Blanche, a back to back DJ duo also using a 909 live in the mix, celebrating their passion for the classic old house sounds from Chicago. They also released the Black Billionaires EP together under the name on Ed Banger this year, and are currently working on a debut LP.

     
• Brodinski

  • Another young graduate of the Paris scene, Brodinski has been a part of the forefront of the world of electro and techno since 2007, when he made his arrival obvious with a string of blistering sets holding his own against much bigger names. A regular topic of reverential discussion on music forums and blogs across the web, his remixes for the likes of Klaxons, Das Pop, The Shoes, and D.I.M amongst others have won praise from all corners of the dance music fraternity and his DJ sets, which stand out from many of his Paris peers in the breadth of their range and focus, have made him one of the hottest properties to emerge in the past three years, demonstrated perfectly on his Such My Deck mix for Bugged Out! His intense productions on labels such as Tiga’s Turbo and  Bok Bok’s Night Slugs, which take their starting points in groove based techno but incorporate elements of house and the French electro sound, are best demonstrated on his debut single Bad Runner or his huge collaboration with Noob this year, Peanuts Club. 
     
• Matt Walsh [ Turbo ]

  • One of the rising names in upfront electro house and techno, Matt Walsh was discovered by Turbo boss Tiga after seeing him play at London’s T-Bar, and has since played at numerous Turbo events across the globe. Also a resident at Bugged Out! his productions as one half of duo Clouded Vision have seen support from the likes of Erol Alkan, Simian Mobile Disco, Ivan Smagghe and Tensnake amongst many others. He has solo productions and remixes forthcoming on Turbo, Southern Fried and Wax:On, and has been marked by many as an ambitious young name to watch.
     
• Audiofarm

  • Manchester’s Audiofarm have wasted little time in becoming one of the best loved and most popular nights in the city, bringing huge acts such as Derrick May, Derrick Carter, Tom Middleton, 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald, Ewan Pearson, Tim Green, Jon Carter and many others to Moho Live. Transforming the venue into a surreal farm at each event, complete with lifesize farmyard animals and farmers wandering the crowd, their often surreal parties are hugely popular, with almost every event completely rammed. They are also known for throwing afterparties and secret warehouse events. 
     
• Dom Chung

  • A resident of Chibuku since its early days at the Lemon Lounge over a decade ago, he first began to play at the club after winning a DJ competition they held to discover new and local talent. One of the youngest ever DJs asked to do a guest mix for Radio 1 at the age of just 18, he was a huge fan of Detroit techno in his youth but his collection also takes in electro, house and miminal techno. He has played the famous terrace at Space in Ibiza, as well as Creamfields, Bestival and V Festival, as well as gigs in Barcelona, Dubai and Moscow. He also works for Ministry of Sound as an internationally touring DJ, regularly travelling the globe playing in some of the most prestigious and renowned clubs in the world.
     
• James Rand

  • James Rand has been a notable player on the Liverpool club circuit for the last three years. Originally as a resident at garage punk and electro hybrid EVOL and later at the legendary Liverpool institution Chibuku Shake Shake, his style of mutant techno with pop sensibilities has seen him set the stage for 2 Many Djs, Erol Alkan and Joy Orbison to name but a few. James currently holds two residencies, one at Manchester’s monthly Jupiter Rooms and the other at Liverpool’s Peacock.
     
• Andro

  • A longtime resident of The Warehouse Project and one half of highly respected electronica duo Andro + Dimit, Belfast’s Andro was one of the founding members of legendary Manchester night Naive Melody. Bringing huge guests to the city such as Carl Craig, Superpitcher, Michael Mayer, Daniel Wang I-F, Smith n Hack and Aeroplane to name just a handful, Andro quickly established himself as one of the city’s brightest young up and coming DJs, his sets mixing old classics and vintage electronica with newer techno from the likes of Marcel Dettmann and Surgeon.
    
    Joining the WHP as a resident three years ago, he has since played with the likes of Theo Parrish, Slam,Steve Bug, Green Velvet and many others.
