Underground hip hop legend, the man in the mask himself Doom will be appearing live at WHP2010 as part of his first ever UK tour. The near mythical MC has only ever appeared once in the UK before, performing an incendiary show at London’s Roundhouse earlier this year which sold out in a matter of hours. For many this will finally be the first opportunity to see him perform in the flesh, after years of waiting.
Previously known as MF Doom, just one of his many guises such as Viktor Vaughn, Zev Love X or King Geedorah, Doom first started freestyling in disguise at open mic nights after the tragic death of his brother and label disputes led to the dissipation of his rap group KMD. In 1999 he emerged onto the scene with his famous mask, which has come to be an instantly recognisable symbol of this eccentric and truly unique artist. His critically acclaimed albums, production work for artists such as Wu Tang Clan’s Ghostface and high profile collaborations with the Madlib and Dangermouse for the Madvillain and Dangerdoom projects have seen him rise to the very pinnacle of the independent hip hop scene, with an almost god-like status amongst his fans.
The night also marks the debut of Jamie XX’s Warehouse Project residency. Although primarily known as one of the brightest young producers in the UK, his recent mixes for Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Parisian label Colette were both examples of his immaculate selection and skill as a DJ.
