Important news regarding 2009 WHP.

November 14th, 2008

Of course you will have heard plenty in the media over the last few weeks about the global financial crisis / credit crunch / worldwide monetary apocalypse that’s going on. Believe it or not, it has actually been good for something apart from shoe repair shops and budget bog roll manufacturers. The bank who were financing the planned glass hotel / apartment sky scraper which was to take shape on the huge site next door to the Store Street venue have officially pulled out of the deal.

This  means that all plans are apparently currently on hold for that site, and that we are going to get at least another year in this space. After such an incredible run so far this year it would have been sad to say goodbye to Store St on January 1st. We have found a real home at this venue and staying means that we can develop the space even more for the 2009 series.

Many thanks to all those who signed the petition - ultimately we didn’t need it, but your support was nonetheless much appreciated.

Dec 12th & 19th Ticket Warning

November 13th, 2008

Their are now only about 200 tickets left for the Dec 19th event, and about 250 left for Dec 12th  Squarepusher / LFO show. Please try and purchase over teh next few days if you are planning on attending either of these events.

The Glitch Mob replace Flying Lotus next Saturday

November 13th, 2008

LA turntable bass crew The Glitch Mob will be stepping up to fill in for Flying Lotus on next Saturday’s Beatdown show. As close West Coast allies of Flying Lotus in the world of dark electronica infused hip-hop we think they will fill the gap pretty nicely. To find out more on The Glitch Mob, please visit their website and myspace.

They summarize their music with three simple words “Dirty. Fucking. Bass.”

LFO confirms for Dec 12th…

September 22nd, 2008

Joining Squarepusher and Luke Vibert on Dec 12th will be the legendary LFO.

There hasn’t been a live LFO performance at all in the UK for two years (since his amazing 2006 WHP appearance with Autechre). As one of the true innovators of dance music in the UK LFO first came to life in the early 90’s on the then fledgling Warp Records, with debut album Frequencies which was quoted as the first great European techno LP. This is a unique opportunity to see two of the original Warp giants on the same bill… One of the defining shows of the WHP08 series.

Click here to read a comprehensive and really interesting 2003 biography of Mark Bell by Bill Brewster. From his early Warp releases and the resulting tale of unexpected commercial success, to his extensive work alongside Bjork (with whom he recently joined on her Volta tour), and his production duties on Depeche Mode’s Exciter album.

Cajmere / Green Velvet added to Dec 6th

September 9th, 2008

Another confirmation just in… Chi Town legend Cajmere / Green Velvet has been added to the bill for the Dec 6th party.

Curtis Jones aka Cajmere and Green Velvet is one of the true greats of Chicago house. In the nineties, his label Cajual was pivotal in the Chicago house renaissance exemplified by the Cajmere single ‘Brighter Days’ with vocalist Dajae. Jones later formed the sub-label Relief to showcase his flambuoyant alter ego Green Velvet, said to be inspired by Prince and Kraftwerk. As Green Velvet he produced house and techno with quirky spoken word vocals such as ‘Preacher Man’, ‘Flash’ and ‘Answering Machine’. His second Green Velvet album is best known for the single ‘La la land’ - while the current third album has produced the catchy single ‘Shake and Pop’.

Green Velvet was on truly blazing form last time he played the warehouse before Miss Kittin. A true legend in house and techno…

Full line-up for this one now includes:Eric Prydz, Dusty Kid, Format3, Krysko, Andro & Dimmit and many more.

Please be aware that tickets on all the parties are selling much quicker than we expected - there are bound to be more of these types of announcements coming soon. Once again, if you know the shows you want to go to, please try and purchase tickets as early as possible.

Nov 1st line-up complete.

August 12th, 2008

The final name to drop on Nov 1st is none other than Ewan Pearson…

Part of what’s refreshing about electronic dance music is how utterly pragmatic its makers tend to be, driven as they are by a single aim: getting butts moving. On this count, producers don’t get much more successful than Ewan Pearson. As well as his own acclaimed productions and world renowned dj sets, he has worked some killer remixes for everyone from Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand and Depeche Mode to Slam, Pet Shop Boys and Röyksopp.

Also on board for this party and taking control of Room 2 with Hot Chip, Ame, Dixon & Slippery People are Naive Melody

Full complete line-up now looks like this:

Jeff Mills / Ewan Pearson / Jamie Jones / Ame / Dixon / Hot Chip (Felix, Al & Joe DJ Set), / Naive Melody / Greg Lord

Shackleton // added to Dec 19th…

August 7th, 2008

SHACKLETON // added to Dec 19th

Shackleton Co-runs Skull Disco alongside Appleblim, one of the hottest labels in underground music at the moment>>> This is where dubstep collides with twisted electronica in a truly incomprehensible, uncategorisable way. Shackleton’s maverick take on big basslines and complex beats doesn’t fit into easy categories and that’s how it’s going to stay. Shackleton has been carving out his own brand of eclecticism on Skull Disco releases so far with intricate, snaking percussion, hypnotic melodies, seriously deep bass lines and dubwise sensibilities. One for the heds.

Current line-up (over 2 rooms) for this one>>> , Boys Noize, Modeselektor – Live, Shackleton, M.A.N.D.Y. (Phillip), Andrew Weatherall, Paranoid London /// Visuals by Pfadfinderai Even more still to come on this one.

The Warehouse Project 2008

July 24th, 2008

Just as it was three years ago when we opened those gates to Boddingtons, The Warehouse Project remains a big experiment. One that continues to evolve quite naturally… We never really know exactly how its going to turn out and there is nothing that has gone before that does it quite like this. For sure, its going to be another crazy three months in Manchester, with over 60,000 people flocking from around the country to attend these parties.

Season 3 of The Warehouse Project sees us return to Store Street for the final time. With plans for a new hotel and apartment block next door to the site, we will be unable to use this space in 2009. Who knows where the next part of the story will take us… we’ve come to realise that in a way we just need to put it in the hands of fate.

Over the page the parties are revealed. The programme for this years series is, we think, the best yet. Its has been gradually pieced together since last October. This year there will be a second more intimate room of music, which has allowed us to go even deeper with the line-ups, putting on some really underground breaking talent in addition to the huge main room action you are used to. The preparation for the annual series has become a genuine labour of love for all involved - now everything is set its time to get moving… Welcome to The Warehouse.

“For twelve weeks this city is ours…”
