ONEMAN – TRACKS OF THE DAY

14.09.16

It takes real talent to become known soley due to DJing. Normally artists are known firstly for their production, and secondly because of their skill behind the decks. Ben UFO, Candy Pollard, Bake, Resom, Jackmaster, Tasker, Jane Fitz, Giles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs spring to mind, and, of course, today’s Tracks Of The Day selector; Oneman (ok, so he remixed Mount Kimbie’s ‘You Took Your Time’ back in 2013, but that was after he rose to fame).

Steve Bishop is something of a household name in the electronic scene. Most people who have gone to an electronic music festival have seen his name on a lineup. He’s a DJ’s DJ, a perfecter of the craft. As Fabric stated back in 2012, “[Djing's] not just about beat matching perfectly, it’s as much about capturing a mood and evolving it through your record selections as it is locking on to a consistent rhythm and that’s something that Streatham bred DJ, Steve Bishop, has proven himself to be mightily adept at over the years.”

Starting his career as a dubstep DJ, the South London DJ’s performances and style has evolved as time has gone on. Nowadays you’re likely to hear him play a track from Pearson Sound as you are Prince’s ‘I Would Die For You’. It’s this diverse, and seemingly unpredictable selection of music that stimulates the audience and keeps them coming back for more. The marriage and arrangement of well-known music and the completely unknown. Recently he’s been enlisted as the resident DJ for London’s XOYO, seeing him take to the decks each Friday for the last eleven weeks, inviting renowned artists such as Bok Bok, Skream, Zed Bias and Wiley to perform alongside him. He’s a DJ that stimulated our passion for the scene and so it’s something of a milestone for us to have him select Tracks Of The Day. Selecting tunes very appropriate for this Warehouse Project takeover, and along a similar theme to Throwing Shade yesterday, he’s picked out four of his favourite warehouse tunes.

Piddy Py – Giggle Riddim
Classic UK BASSLINE track released on Jackmaster's old label Dress 2 Sweat.

DJ Q – Rocky
Another BASSLINE murderer. Rocky intro sample into twisted pitched baselines.

Musical Mob – Pulse X
Biggest selling grime instrumental on vinyl of all time. Released in 2000/1 and still gets an incredible reaction to this day. It was also made on a Sony PlayStation.
