Underworld are icons. Over 20 years they’ve refined their sound, exploring techno, house, drum and bass, electronica and classic songwriting, to create a uniquely British sound that fuses Karl Hyde’s garbled poetry, all sensory overload and suburban neurosis, with the soaring highs and claustrophobic lows created by Rick Smith. This year sees the duo drop a surprise collaboration - teaming up with punk Godfather Iggy Pop to record Teatime Dub Encounters, a record that layers Iggy’s sinewy ruminations on life with Underworld’s expansive sonic palette - another milestone in a career that show no sign of slowing. With both this new work, and classics such as Cowgirl and Born Slippy to draw on, the Underworld live experience is a remarkable event.
